Announced on March 2, 2015, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is an Android touch screen tablet made and designed by Sony Mobile. Unlike its predecessor, the Xperia Z4 tablet has a 10.1-inch screen with 2560 x 1600 resolution and is waterproof and dustproof with IP65 and IP68 ratings. The tablet is lighter and thinner than its predecessor, weighing 0.85 pound (389 g) for the WiFi model and 0.86 pound (393 g) for the LTE model and is 0.24 inches (6.1 mm) thick. The Z4 tablet has the Snapdragon 810 processor and the WQXGA resolution screen. It was unveiled at Sony’s press conference with the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, Spain, on March 2nd. The Z4 tablet replaces the Xperia Z2 tablet with a faster 64-bit processor, an improved front-facing camera, and a higher-resolution display for brighter colors.
The capacitive LCD IPS display of the device measures 10.1 inches with a WQXGA resolution of 2560 by 1600 pixels with a density of 299ppi. Sony claims that the tablet’s screen is the brightest in the world, compared to other leading tablets. The tablet has a 8.1 megapixel rear camera that can record video at 1920 x 1080 pixels with the Sony Exmor RS sensor and a 16x digital zoom. It also features a 5.1 megapixel wide-angle front-facing camera capable of video chatting in 1080p. The tablet weighs 389g and measures 1670mm by 2540mm by 6.10mm, which makes it 50g lighter and 0.30mm thinner than the Z2 tablet. Inside, it features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa Core processor clocked at 2.0 GHz and an Adreno 430 GPU in addition to a sealed 6000 mAh battery, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal memory and microSDHC, microSDXC up to 128GB. For connectivity, the tablet is NFC compatible, has Bluetooth 4.1, is DLNA certified, supports MHL 3.0, has an FM radio and also supports LTE. The Xperia Tablet Z4 is NFC compatible and can be used with NFC compatible accessories such as speakers or for low value financial transactions. It is also protected against water ingress in accordance with IP65 / 68 and can operate up to 1.5 m of fresh water for 30 minutes.
The Xperia Z4 Tablet runs Android 5.0.2 Lolipop with Sony’s custom launcher and some additional applications, such as Sony’s multimedia applications (Walkman, Album and Videos). As with most Android devices, it is preloaded with a suite of Google apps. The tablet also includes PlayStation 4 Remote Play where the user can play his PlayStation 4 games on the device.
The device is sold in both Wi-Fi and 4G LTE versions, although not all versions of the tablet are available in some countries. (Some countries do not get the LTE tablet, while others, like Malaysia, do not get the Wi-Fi model only.) It is also available in black or white.
